Handwritten journals & pocket diaries of Eric Charles Janes of 14th Battalion South Staffs Regiment (4944698). Two journals 1936-1939 are personal daily notes on walks, weather, finding work (including being fired twice in one week) until Sept 1938 mentioning Hitler's threat to Poland and Sept 39 the invasion of Poland and Declaration of War. The third journal covers 1939/40/41 with the 14th Battalion guarding Norfolk beaches and giving extensive details of the general progress of the war abroad, together with personal notes. Also included are later snapshots and other ephemera of military service in India following the end of the War
